KonoSuba: Legend of Crimson Summary (KonoSuba Wiki)

One night after making a purchase of a video game at a store - one he's wanted to play for a while - Kazuma Satou (an average Japanese NEET of 16 years of age at this time) is on his way home. However, he is stopped dead in his tracks by the sight of an accident only he can stop: a car is approaching a girl fast, and she is unaware in the middle of the street. Seeing this as an accident only he can help with, Kazuma dives in to rescue her, exchanging his life for her safety. Within the afterlife, he meets a girl presenting herself as a goddess named Aqua.

She then promptly reveals, to her amusement and Kazuma's humiliation, that the circumstances of his death were greatly exaggerated. The car he thought he saw was a slow-moving tractor, the girl was in no danger whatsoever, he peed himself while making his grand dive in, and he died of shock. On top of that, no one could stop laughing when the circumstances of his death were announced. Aqua does, however, reveal that she is giving Kazuma something important: a second chance. He is to be reincarnated into a fantasy world at the same age he died at, memories intact, along with any one powerful magical item of his choosing at the price of being the hero destined to defeat the Demon King in battle.

Kazuma, feeling spiteful at the mockery Aqua dealt to him post-death chooses to take her as his one magical item. This request is granted, despite Aqua's own objections, and thus begins Kazuma and Aqua's grand quest, Kazuma being put into the basic 'adventurer' class, and Aqua, being a goddess, qualifying for the advanced 'archpriest' class. Joining their party in the Adventurer's Guild are Megumin (a mage), and Darkness (a crusader), who complete the party. Through defeating Demon Generals and saving various cities (including the Crimson Village, Megumin's home), Kazuma and his party gradually grow closer as years pass (Kazuma is 18 now) to defeating the Demon King...not that he's in a rush. That's a lot of work.

PERSONALITY: Kazuma, at his core, is a good person. Or, well. He'd like to think so, at least. A former hikikomori and NEET, Kazuma's morals tend to skew at times towards the more selfish or impure, but he ultimately usually ends up doing the right thing in the end...and usually comes off as the most sane in his adventuring party as a result. That's not particularly difficult when your companions include a lazy goddess, an overdramatic mage, and a masochistic crusader, but it's a wonder he keeps himself at the level of sanity that he does consistently.

That's not to say that he's entirely put-together, however, because he certainly isn't. He's blunt - sometimes insultingly so, but he's around people most of the time who tend to not get the point unless he is, and even then could just ignore it entirely (or misinterpret it to a way of their liking, such as in S1E4 where Darkness gets her armor repaired, asks how it looks, and Kazuma dryly responds that it looks like something 'the spoiled-ass son of an aristocrat would wear', only to be met with Darkness's usual masochistic enjoyment of the bereavement). However, this blunt and harsh edge of his personality sometimes comes in handy, such as when he insults Aqua too much in S1E6 and it results in her summoning an entire deluge of water, ending the battle with Demon King General Beldia quite quickly.

And in contrast, he is sweet to those he feels deserve it - chiefly Wiz, who he is kind enough to to result in her teaching him how to use 'Drain Touch' as a spell (seeing as she's one of the other few people who can, being a Lich). Ultimately, he aspires, however, to treat all people equally ("I yearn for true gender equality. I have no patience for one who talks about female privilege when it suits them, and then complains about someone 'not being a man' when it's convenient." - he refuses to hold off on attacking a foe just because they're a woman, for instance), and he won't go so far as to take advantage of those who don't deserve it even when it would be in his benefit to do so.

He is also fairly filthy-minded (using his 'Steal' skill to, however unintentionally it is, steal panties - he's smug enough in S1E3 to twirl them around on his finger laughing maniacally, and Chris claims that he made her 'judge how much her panties were worth' to pay to get them back, which he doesn't deny later). But if he's with someone who he genuinely feels emotion for, he may be far more nervous and get cold feet - he's always been too afraid to take things too far with intimacy, and if he's truly propositioned may freeze up and avoid it instantly no matter what he boasts about (as shown by the fact that he freezes up whenever he tries to do anything with Megumin in the movie).

He tends to have an ego and sees himself as the 'hero' even when he is not entirely justified to. This begins in S1E1 where he misinterprets his own death as a far more heroic demise than it was (until informed otherwise) and persists throughout the series, enforced more by the fact that technically, yes, he is supposed to be the hero...but this goes against his desire to lay about and not do anything, seeing his quest in itself as a hassle. He takes advantage of his heroic status when it suits him (claiming smugly throughout the movie that he is going through his 'popular phase' when cute girls proposition him) and ignores it entirely when it doesn't (being upset in the movie by the exact same thing when he is being taken advantage of by a tribe of ugly female orcs). He also has a remarkable degree of spite to those he sees as his betters rubbing it in his face that they are better (as shown by his treatment of Kyoya throughout the series), but ultimately this can backfire on him quite easily (Kyoya being unable to use his sword to defeat a powerful enemy and win a battle immediately because Kazuma callously sold off his sword, for instance).

He is crafty and quick-witted. Kazuma's fightstyle mostly befits a rogue - shown first by the fact that the first skills he acquires in S1E3 are Thief-class skills, namely 'Steal', which becomes his signature spell throughout the series. He's in the underpowered 'Adventurer' class, so most of his skills and prowess in battle depend on making usage of his opponent's faults and using his underpowered skills to his advantage (using a very light water spell combined with an Earth spell to shoot dirt into an opponent's eyes, for instance). This is also shown outside of battle where one of the things that earns Kazuma his 'Billionaire Adventurer' title is that he gives shopkeeper Vanir ideas from the modern world to be sold in the fantasy world as new inventions in exchange for some of the profits (resulting in him getting a hefty lump of Eris - the fantasy world's currency - for 'inventing' the kotatsu).

However, despite this, Kazuma won't hesitate to do hard work if absolutely necessary - he went on powerful quests as an adventurer after all (and seen even before that to gain some spare Eris, he worked as a construction worker), and he even has some level of thought about the future if he cannot take up adventuring anymore (learning the 'Cooking' skill with spare ability points to open a restaurant just in case that he can't, making him a fairly excellent chef in the process). He won't hesitate to boast about his hard work even with his desire to be lazy, but there's no denying that he'll absolutely work if the reward is being lazy later.

Overall, Kazuma is not a bad person - a conniving, crafty, arrogant, and snarky one, certainly, but not a bad one. He has good intentions at heart...it's just getting him there that is the struggle.

POWERS/ABILITIES:
HIGH ROLLER: Kazuma has always been extraordinarily lucky - another nickname of his is 'Lucky Bastard Kazuma-San' - and has never lost a game of Jan-Ken-Pon/Rock-Paper-Scissors in his entire life. If he's put into a situation where he has to gamble, he'll usually either win by a landslide, exactly get what he needs to, or go above and beyond to the point where some may speculate he's cheating (surprisingly, he isn't). It is to the point where the only person in his world able to match his prowess in luck is Eris, the literal Goddess of Fortune (who eventually declares him her champion, anyway). However, this does not stop his life being extraordinarily unlucky, and it seems to be only when he knows he's gambling do things turn out his way (and he tends to undermine his successes with his failures, especially if it takes a while for his failures to be revealed as ultimate successes). This is the basis of most of his powers.

SNEAKYTHIEF: Chris, a girl in the thief-class, was the first to teach Kazuma some skills to use his ability points on. This gave him three skills, though here I have kept only one of them for simplicity's sake, and it is the one he uses most: Steal. This valuable ability allows Kazuma to use some of his energy to steal the most valuable item on any person's possession, from rare gems to the primary accidental thing he stole from girls in his world...panties. All he must do is reach towards his target, shout 'STEAL!' and whatever the spell sees as 'most valuable' will appear in his hand in a burst of blinding blue light. As you might expect, this makes it impossible for him to steal things that won't fit in his hands (though he can use both hands, as was the case when he stole Verdia's head in S1E6), and the perception of what it sees as 'most valuable' is very...odd (considering it sees panties on women as 'most valuable', one may speculate it may be based on Kazuma's own perception in a way), but it is still very useful nonetheless. (If it is used on any other PC in play, I'll ask the other mun as to what they consider 'most valuable', and it is possible for it to fail or misfire.)

A DRAINING PRESENCE: The one traditionally magic spell I have kept from Kazuma's arsenal is Drain Touch. This is a spell learned by Kazuma taught by a friend of his named Wiz, and usually only is used by those of the lich class (but Kazuma, being a generalized 'adventurer' class, can make use of anything at their base level). This spell can drain the energy of an opponent so long as Kazuma calls out 'DRAIN TOUCH!', and gets skin-on-skin contact with his target. The longer the contact, the more energy is drained until the target collapses. This energy can then be transferred to an ally, rejuvenating them, or kept for Kazuma's own usage. This can be easily prevented by simply not allowing skin-on-skin contact or somehow breaking free as energy is being drained, so the spell itself is very situational, but when it works, it works well.

BOW AND SWORD, IN ACCORD: Kazuma's first weapon gained during his quest is one he keeps to this day, his trusty katana (named 'Chunchunmaru' by Megumin, which promptly got engraved onto the blade as its official name despite Kazuma's protest and seeing it as embarrassing). He's not an expert at swordfighting, but he's decent enough to hold his own (a master, however, would still outduel him easily). His archery skills, however, are far better honed. He keeps a bow and arrow on him, and tends to use these in conjunction with another powerful skill he picked up, this one being 'Snipe'. For a bit of Kazuma's energy, he is capable of landing very precision shots by calling out 'SNIPE!' as he readies the arrow in his bow and fires. This somewhat depends on his luck, again, but he considers it far more viable than his sword skills.
